About Us

Our Mission

The mission of UnpackingADHD.com is to help adults living with the traits of ADHD understand their unique brain wiring, transcend challenges, and discover the “unmined gold” of their natural strengths. We promote a process of discovery. Finding patterns where others see complexity. Converting what have historically been seen as problems into opportunities.

Our community understands that adult ADHD is a paradox. You may have great difficulty keeping track of your keys, paying attention to a conversation, or meeting deadlines. But you may also be remarkably empathetic, intuitive, and creative. Seeing the full picture of ADHD opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for learning, growing, creating the life you desire, and becoming an advocate for inclusion.

Our Philosophy

Unpacking ADHD does not advocate for the abandonment of traditional diagnostic or treatment tools, such as stimulant medications and cognitive behavioral therapy. We know that these tools are often “life savers” for many of those living with the traits of ADHD.

However, we also know that people with ADHD traits are not broken or disabled. They’re just wired differently. With knowledge and support to understand how your brain really works, you can see a path and feel hope, possibly for the first time.

Our Founder

Unpacking ADHD was founded by Don Baker, a licensed counselor who was diagnosed with ADHD in 1997. Don has been leading groups and creating workshops for adults with ADHD (and those who love them) for more than 15 years.

Together, we can put an end to harmful myths and labels. We can learn to advocate for ourselves and one another. And we can build a community where many perspectives are not only considered, but also included in our growing awareness. I look forward to getting to know you!
